Kathmandu, July 17: The hearing on the dispute relating to the vote counting of Bharatpur Metropolitan City-19 in Chitwan district has been postponed till July 23.
A division bench of Justices Om Prakash Mishra and Purusottam Bhandari postponed the hearing on the case under consideration at the Supreme Court (SC) for July 23 due to time constraint on Monday, according to Joint-Spokesperson at the SC, Bishwaraj Poudel.
This is the fourth time the hearing in the same has been postponed.
CPN-Maoist Centre’s cadres had torn the ballot papers with votes of Bharatpur Metropolitan City-19 at night on May 28 as the vote count was due to finish.
The Election Commission of Nepal had given verdict to hold reelection at the same ward against which ward member candidate for Bharatpur-19 from CPN-UML Gunjan Man BK and lawyer Tulsi Pandey had filed a writ petition at the SC.
During the first hearing on the case, a single bench of Justice Cholendra Shumsher JBR had issued an interim order not to implement the Commission decision for the reelection.
Renu Dahal from the CPN-Maoist Centre and Devi Prasad Gyawali from CPN-UML were the closest contenders for the mayoral post of the Bharatpur Municipality whose votes were counted to be 40,908 and 41,641 respectively. RSS
